Countertops in NJ
As one of the defining characteristics of a kitchen, your choice of countertops can drastically alter the feel of the room. While you may know the color and texture that you want for the countertops in your NJ home, deciding on the material can be a difficult process as there are so many different options for all. At Discount Cabinet Corner, our professionals can help you weigh the pros and cons of the materials to find the one right for your needs.
One of the biggest differences between our two most popular styles—granite and quartz, is how they are made. Granite slabs are cut directly from the ground and then polished to provide you with the most natural looking surfaces. Quartz countertops are made by crushing the mineral and adding resin to create the finished product. While one is all natural and the other is man-made, there is only a slight difference in price.
The deciding factors on which material you should use for the countertops in your NJ home are maintenance and performance. Granite is more fragile than quartz and needs to be carefully installed to prevent any damage and you must also be careful not to drop anything on it as that may chip it. It is naturally porous and therefore must be sealed on a regular basis to prevent any stains. Since quartz is non-porous, you will never have to worry about having it sealed as there is no way for the liquid to penetrate the surface. The resin in the quartz countertop not only prevents stains, but it adds strength to the material.
While quartz may be stronger than granite, it is not the clear winner. Granite is much better at handling heat than quartz as it can be used near a stove range and will not be damaged if you have to quickly place a hot pan on it. If the granite has been recently sealed, both are equally stain, acid, and scratch resistant.
